The Simple Life: Road trip!

A week ago we decided we were finally brave enough to take Ellie on her first road trip, so we hit the road to Chico. This was the first time that Ellie met many of her Jauregui family members. It took an inordinate amount of packing, but we were able to stuff the three of us and all of our luggage into the back of Tom's car. For some asinine reason, we decided it would be a good idea to continue using cloth diapers while we were on vacation. This meant that we had an entire suitcase devoted solely to Ellie's diapers not including her clothes, burp clothes, blankets, bottles, breast pump, etc. This also meant we had to bring a bag of *dirty* diapers with us wherever we went before we had a cumulative amount to wash. Now picture that in the back of our trunk during the 90 degree Chico heat. Eeew. No, really really eeew!

Ellie did surprisingly well being strapped into her car seat for 3.5 hours. She slept most of the way there and we only had to stop to change and feed her once while on the road. We spent our first night in Yuba City with Camille, Taylor and baby Ryan. Ryan was fascinated with Ellie and decided to help her out by pulling out her pacifier and putting it back into her mouth. Being a bottle drinker himself, he was a pro at pulling off the bottle tops and screwing them back on. I predict he'll be an engineer because he definitely likes to figure out how things work.

We made our way to Chico and were able to spend time with Tom's grandma Agnes. This was the first time that she was able to meet Ellie and she had a good time holding her great granddaughter.

We had lots of family time in Chico. Tom's cousin Heidi is now staying with Tom's dad and going to Pleasant Valley, the same high school as Tom. It was great to spend more time with her and get to know her better. We had a lot of fun just hanging out and beating the heat.
