Two months

Our little Ellie is two months old today.  Looking back on her one month photos, I am amazed at how much she has changed already.  At her two month doctor's appointment she weighed in at 10lbs 13oz and was 22.5 inches long. That means she's gained 1lb 5oz and grown one inch over the last month. She has already outgrown a lot of her newborn clothes and is fitting into 3 month clothing. It seems to me that everyday she developing a little more.  She is now smiling and cooing a lot.  The mornings seem to be her happy time when she'll sit in her chair and chat at us. She follows us with her eyes and will turn her head to see where voices and noises are coming from. Her neck is getting very strong and she can hold her head up on her own. She is still getting the hang of her limbs, but is starting to hold on to things, especially my hair and shirt when she is nursing. She has also started doing this cute thing when she nurses where she puts her arm behind her head and massages her own hair. She doesn't sleep much during the day, but she has been sleeping a beautiful 6-8 hours at night (!) which has been so amazing to us.  I'm still getting up once a night to pump my milk, but it's still a lot of sleep comparatively.
Her personality has lent itself to many nicknames and funny songs.  My dad has started a binder of all the old sea songs he used to sing to us as kids and has added some new ones that he has made up for Ellie.  When my mom was staying with us she used to sing to Ellie when she was fussy and she made up this little song for her. It is sung from low to high, slow to fast and goes like this: Ellie-Sophia-La-Mas-Chiquita-La-Mas-Bonita, La-Mas-Inteligente-Por-Todo-El-Mundo! (Translation: Ellie Sophia, the smallest, most pretty, most intelligent in the whole wide world!) We have also come up with a multitude of nicknames for her.  These are my favorite:
  • Scrunchie - given to her by my sister because she makes a scrunchy face when she is upset or fussy.
  • Oogie Boogie - given to her by Tom. I have no idea why.
  • Boogie - an abbreviation of the above. Also appropriate because she gets lots of boogers.
  • Chewper - when I was little we called my pacifier a chewpie after the Spanish verb Chewpar meaning "to suck". She likes to do this a lot.
  • Chewpasaurus - this needs no explanation.
  • Ellie-phant - Given to her by me. The obvious animal of choice.
We have gotten in a pretty good routine where I wake up early before Ellie gets up and leave Tom on duty while I take a shower, eat breakfast and get ready for the day. I have told work that I will not be coming back and the end of this month will be my last official day. I have been with PAIRE for four and a half years now so it's going to be an adjustment moving from the working world to being a stay at home mom.  Plus my new boss is so much more demanding. ;)  To help me stay connected I have joined a Mom's group called Las Madres.  The chapter I have joined is local to the area I  live and there are activities everyday like coffee meetups, stroller walks, library story time, Mom's Night Out and play dates. The first meetup felt a little like the first day of high school where you wonder if you'll be cool enough or if you'll have someone to sit with at lunch.  I was laughing at myself at how nervous I was. I'm not one to care about that kind of stuff so it was funny that it  affected me so much. We started going last week and so far we've met some great new playmates. It will be great for Ellie once she gets older and it's nice for me to meet other mom's in our area. Other than that we've been going on lots of walks, visiting family and friends and running little errands to get out of the house.  I try to make sure we do something everyday.  It helps to keep me from getting cabin fever and I'm sure it helps Tom when he's working from home.  We still haven't gotten back to our cooking routine (our cooking blog has been sadly ignored as of late) but I have started working out again and we are doing our best to keep up the things we used to like to do - and just do them now with Ellie.

We've taken A LOT of photos over the last month - way too many to post here.  I need to figure out a better way to share all our photos, but for now here are a few of my favorites.
