The Simple Life: Abby's First Birthday

We had such a fun time celebrating Abby's first birthday. On the actual day we took the girls to the Children's Discovery Museum. Our birthday gift to Abby was buying a family membership to CDM so now we can go as often as we want. It is such a fun museum for the little ones and I never feel like we have enough time to explore everything. We'll likely go a lot this year. It's a lot more fun now that Abby is walking.

In the evening we ordered Chinese food (Ellie and Abby's favorite) and I baked a cake for a cake smash. I had forgotten that we threw away our pastry bag so I resorted to frosting with a plastic baggie. The result was this spiky cake! Abby loved smashing it until she couldn't get the frosting off of her hands. I don't even think she really ate any of it, she just loved smooshing her hands in it.

The following weekend we threw a party at Oak Meadow Park with all of Abby's friends (okay, mostly Ellie's friends but same difference really). We met up at the park and played for awhile and then headed over to ride the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad and Bill Mason Carousel. The kids were so cute and LOVED riding the train. It turned out to be a beautiful day and it was so enjoyable to be outside. We were so lucky the weather cooperated! A lot of our friends came from afar and Tuppa and Great joined us too. It was a really low-key and fun afternoon. Just what we wanted!
