Some like it hot...but I am not one of them!

I realize I've been a bit of a bad blogger lately, but it seems like life lately is a cycle of work, getting ready for work and sleep.  I can happily say that I am not having as much trouble sleeping these days, but I've started to experience some other wonderful pregnancy side effects, like compression and leg sciatica. Luckily, lots of stretching and yoga help. After weeks of trying to sleep on my left side (at the guidance of about every pregnancy book I've read), I finally told my doctor I was having a hard time doing it and being able to sleep.  She confirmed that it is totally unnecessary!  That's right folks, all those endless nights of uncomfortable sleep were for nothing!  I'm very happy to be sleeping on my back again.

Other than some mild aches and pains, I'm a pretty happy camper.  Baby J is moving around more than ever.  He/she seems to like the hours of 9:00pm - 3:00am the best.  I recently learned this was because babies in utero have day/night reversal.  When it is day, the mother is moving around and rocking the baby to sleep, whereas at night when the mother is still, the baby is up and active.  I feel like the kicks are starting to get very strong.  There are times when my whole belly shakes and it wakes me up from a dead sleep.  I really love feeling the baby kick and it is become more and more obvious that I am not alone. :) I am definitely starting to feel my body getting more compressed and I have to constantly remind myself that no matter how hungry I am, I can't eat as much as I used to because there just isn't enough room.  We are now at 27 weeks, and baby J has grown significantly.  My belly button is almost entirely popped out!

26 weeks
Big belly!

We had a very low-key Easter this year.  We decided to stay home and Tina and Jordan came over for Easter dinner.  Tom cooked the traditional ham and it turned out really well.  I'm not a huge ham fan, but the slow roast and sugary glaze was worth the work (recipe is on Cocina Jauregui if you are interested). Tina and Jordan baked a bunny cake which Jordan had a blast decorating.  Jordan is growing up so quickly - I can't believe he is 4 already.  He has become very chatty and will tell you detail by detail the plot of his favorite Thomas the Tank Engine movies. When we asked him if he was excited to have another cousin, he replied "No, I don't need another cousin".  Too funny!

Bunny Ears!
Typical of spring, the weather has been constantly fluctuating.  Two weeks ago we had a record breaking storm front that brought a huge thunder and lighting storm to the area.  According to the meteorologists, there were 117 lightning strikes that hit the ground around the bay. And now this weekend we are in the midst of a heat wave.  The highs are up in the low 90s and the heat and stick is making me nervous for my due date in the middle of July.  I can only hope that we don't get one of our typical 100 degree heat waves until after I've delivered.  I can't imagine being huge and uncomfortable in my last trimester and having to deal with 100 degree weather.

Taking advantage of the heat, we are finally getting around to painting the baby's room this weekend.  And by "we", I mean Tom.  There was some involvement on my part in taping the room, but other than that I've been luxuriously tending to other housework (or blogging as the case may be) and avoiding the paint fumes.  After 8 paint samples, I finally landed on a color that I think will go well either way, boy or girl.  Here are a few sneak preview pictures, but I will wait to reveal the final color/design until we've finished painting and moving the furniture back into the baby's room.  Right now our house is a jungle gym of furniture while we paint (something my uncoordinated self needs to be careful of). We will be finding out the sex of the baby (hopefully) soon, very soon.  Stay tuned!

  1. I love your blog posts - the room looks great. I love the picture of you standing in it. What fun it will be to look back years from now at you, a new mom, standing in that room which will hold so many memories.

I love what you said about not feeling alone anymore- you & Baby J are going to be BFFs for a long time to come and you will never again be bored. :)

  3. This is such a warm and wonderful journey to share with you both. It brings back so many joyful (and crazy) memories of another, earlier baby girl that certainly rocked our world (and still does). :) Yes, Tom, I also painted baby rooms in Placerville by myself because of "evil" paint fumes. Who says Daddies aren't involved?
